      <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This was the sweet night, the Christmas night, a year ago when I wrote my first post on <a href='/tag/nostr/'>#Nostr</a>. It was <a href="https://njump.me/npub1sn0wdenkukak0d9dfczzeacvhkrgz92ak56egt7vdgzn8pv2wfqqhrjdv9">Edward Snowden</a> and <a href="https://njump.me/npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m">jack</a> on Twitter who drew my attention to <a href='/tag/nostr/'>#Nostr</a>. (Now I don't interact on Twitter anymore.) <br><br>I remember I heard Nostr to be a "blockchain based" network (which was wrong). 😛 Out of thin imagination, I explained to myself that it's censorship-resistant only because it's blockchain-based. 😁😀 <br><br>I registered on <a href='/tag/amethyst/'>#Amethyst</a> before <a href='/tag/christmas/'>#Christmas</a> but I had no idea about "relays" etc. So nothing showed up on my personal feed. I was greatly confused. Then desperately I posted my first post seeking help. Nobody replied. Nobody. 😢🤐<br><br>I was not hopeless. <br><br>I smelt freedom in the air (and such a freedom-fucker I am), so I stayed there totally alone with a blank feed, having no connection to anybody for four months. Then in April my fellow <a href='/tag/pleb/'>#pleb</a> <a href="https://njump.me/npub17nd4yu9anyd3004pumgrtazaacujjxwzj36thtqsxskjy0r5urgqf6950x">isolabell.art 🎨</a>  responded to my Christmas post. I feel so grateful to this artist. 💜❤️💛 <br><br>I feel so happy that <a href='/tag/nostr/'>#nostr</a> exists. After traveling uncertainty through <a href='/tag/diaspora/'>#Diaspora</a>, <a href='/tag/minds/'>#Minds</a>, <a href='/tag/mastodon/'>#Mastodon</a> and various other apps in <a href='/tag/fediverse/'>#Fediverse</a>, I have reached <a href='/tag/nostr/'>#Nostr</a> in quest of freedom. I love freedom of thoughts and expressions as it is practiced in <a href='/tag/nostrverse/'>#Nostrverse</a>. <br><br>Freedom is unconditional. Freedom can be attained only through freedom. And I am the limit of my freedom— only me.<br><br>I feel grateful to <a href="https://njump.me/npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6">fiatjaf</a> and other wonderful devs for making Nostr so live, so colorful, so innovative. Never stayed there without breaks. In a growing totalitarian state like <a href='/tag/bangladesh/'>#Bangladesh</a>, speaking openly on Facebook is risky and radical. So I stayed there though with frequent breaks. But Facebook is a shameless self promotion bazaar, a naked space without any privacy. So it's now one and a half years I couldn't login to Facebook again.<br><br>I joined <a href='/tag/diaspora/'>#Diaspora</a>. It was too scanty and scattered. And a little dull. I felt alone. I didn't have proper vision to interact in an international space actually. It gave some light to me which I still carry but ultimately I lost my interest there. <br><br>I joined <a href='/tag/minds/'>#Minds</a> in its very early days. Had interacted with Bill Ottman about how to improve some of their group features. But I felt almost the same there as I felt at Diaspora.<br><br>I joined <a href='/tag/twitter/'>#Twitter</a> for <a href='/tag/assange/'>#Assange</a>. It's him who brought me to various manifestoes of the liberation of the internet in general, to Timothy May, crypto-anarcy, J.P. Barlow, <a href="https://njump.me/npub1q40jtk09x6mdmmlw09qracctqpgsr9zl2hcc7wzf8vuwasqsncwsxgaa27">Electronic Frontier Foundation</a>, and ultimately to <a href="https://njump.me/npub1sn0wdenkukak0d9dfczzeacvhkrgz92ak56egt7vdgzn8pv2wfqqhrjdv9">Edward Snowden</a>.<br>I was mostly silently following the liberation frontiers of cyberspace and the US politics. I was fascinated, though critically, to <a href='/tag/elon/'>#Elon</a> Musk for his freedom rhetoric, and enjoyed the <a href='/tag/twitterfiles/'>#TwitterFiles</a>. But after all those blue-check verification metamorphosis of Twitter I was feeling uncomfortable with it. I felt like a third class citizen in Elon's Town Square. So, as soon as I came to know of <a href='/tag/nostr/'>#Nostr</a> from a tweet of <a href="https://njump.me/npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m">jack</a>, I joined here in December 2022. Here I follow Snowden and Jack and so many others. I learn a lot. Subtle threats of censorship does not disturb me. I've now virtually left Twitter.<br><br>In the mean time, I joined <a href='/tag/fediverse/'>#Fediverse</a> via <a href='/tag/mastodon/'>#Mastodon</a>. Explored Fediverse a lot. Joined here and there. Had some interaction with some left wing anarchists there. Then one of posts got censored. I left it.<br><br>In my childhood, adolescence and youth I was a <a href='/tag/bolshevik/'>#Bolshevik</a>. I left the Communist Party when I was 30. Then I was hugely attracted by Bakunin and turned to be a left wing <a href='/tag/anarchy/'>#Anarchy</a> man but could never become an <a href='/tag/anarchist/'>#Anarchist</a> as such. After 'meeting' Assange, you know, virtually, in 2010 I became an explorer of <a href='/tag/cipherpunks/'>#Cipherpunks</a> and Crypto-Anarchy.<br><br>Since 1998, I have travelled around the universes of Sufi, Osho, Tao, and Zen, and others.<br><br>Now I'm a human without labels. I go by my passions and instincts. No ideology, no good-bad dichotomous binaries. Just a freeman, I live in present moment. For the past 4 years it has been a source of innovation on the Fediverse, implementing features such as emoji reactions, quote posts, and events.<br><br>However, there are problems with the ActivityPub protocol championed by Mastodon. The main issue is that user accounts are tied to a single server. When a Mastodon server is taken offline, all of its users permanently lose their accounts, leaving a hole in the network. For large servers, this can have devastating, lasting effects on the growth of the network. In addition, users on Mastodon can get banned for unfair, arbitrary reasons. Too many bad experiences add up, and leave a sour taste for users.<br><br>Nostr is a reimagined protocol that fixes things with cryptography. Users get a private key to sign events (similar to a Bitcoin wallet), allowing people to avoid outages and migrate off unfriendly servers. Nostr is a fresh approach to social media, fixing deep problems that hinder Mastodon's growth, while freeing people from corporate social media.<br><br>Our new project, "Ditto", is a competitor to Mastodon. It is an open-source, self-hosted social media server for online communities. While it borrows many ideas from Mastodon (including its API), it is built on the Nostr protocol. Ditto brings the best parts of Mastodon to Nostr, including dozens of native apps, and several new features not normally available on Nostr.<br><br>In February, Soapbox deployed "Mostr," a bridge between Mastodon and Nostr. The bridge is a free service that allows users to communicate seamlessly between the two networks. It proved to be a great success, impacting the discussions (and culture) on both networks. With Mastodon, individual servers can interoperate. With the Mostr bridge, two entire decentralized networks of different protocols can interoperate. Ditto continues the ideas set forth by the bridge, seeking to bridge the gap between protocols further.<br><br>OpenSats has agreed to fund Soapbox for 1 year out of its Nostr fund, which Jack Dorsey donated $5M to earlier this year. In addition, I have stepped down from my role as Head of Engineering at Truth Social to pursue this mission full time.<br><br>We believe that the future of social media is decentralized, and that building bridges is the path to take us there.<br><br>Ditto is open-source software licensed under the GNU AGPL.
